Session Title:  Latinx and __________: The Intersectionality of our Various Identities
Keynote Speaker: Jose L. Posos, M.Ed., LPC
Description: Stories are powerful. Sharing stories is foundational to the building of community. In this workshop, participants will experience an illuminating approach to communicating with each other about the multiple aspects of identity, while being listened to with compassion and respect. Not only will the participants learn about each other’s diverse backgrounds and experiences, but they will also have the opportunity to build relationships based on universal feelings and their common humanity. This activity will be the foundation for the conference experience, which focuses on the many identities that we all may or may not have in common.

• Session 1: Leading in a Multicultural Institute
  • Room Location: PRCC Monmouth Room
  • Capacity: 20 people
  • Session Description: This interactive workshop will explore the different skills needed for student leaders to become elements of social change on their campus and in the workplace. Through a series of experiential activities the participants will work to establish an understanding of the “Relational Leadership” approach. The Relational Leadership training centers around a T.E.A.M. approach to group successes. Participants understand how their interactions and relationships with each other have a large impact on their organization and the campus community
• Session 2: Microaggressions & the Power of Words
  • Room Location: PRCC Somerset Room
  • Capacity: 20 people
  • Session Description: Of the many forms of micro-aggressions people experience, words can be among the most powerful and potentially damaging. In this engrossing workshop, participants will experience the impact of language and increase their appreciation of the critical importance of the words or phrases we choose that can have a damaging impact on our campuses.
• Session 3: What is YOUR story?
  • Room Location: PRCC Middlesex Room 224
  • Capacity: 16
  • Session Description: When we share the story of our own communities and experiences, we light the way for connection and impact. During this interactive session, participants will explore the art of personal and collective storytelling. These performed stories will act as a springboard for community dialogue while discovering actions to create change.
• Session 4: Latinx Identity Career Panel
  • Room Location: PRCC Dance Theater Room 351
  • Capacity: 20 people
  • Session Description: Join us as we partner with Career Development Center to bring a panel of Latinx alumni to discuss careers, experiences, life, and the following steps to prepare you for your future.

• Session 1: Confronting and Combatting Anti-Blackness in the Latinx Community
  • Room Location: PRCC Monmouth Room
  • Capacity: 25 people
  • Session Description: Anti-blackness is certainly alive and well in the Latinx community. From brushing off jokes that are racist to using questionable nicknames for people who are Black to interrogating Black Latinxs about their identity, there is a significant amount of work that needs to occur to effectively combat these bigoted behaviors. This workshop focuses on addressing how non-Black Latinxs perpetuated anti-blackness inside and outside the Latinx community through self-exploration of one’s conditioning and unconscious biases.
• Session 2: No More Drama: Using Restorative Practices in Social Justice Work
  • Room Location: PRCC Somerset Room
  • Capacity: 25 people
  • Session Description: Conflict is an inevitable consequence when diverse and charismatic leaders are brought together for a common goal. However, how these leaders deal with those conflicts can determine how effectively the group will operate. This workshop is geared towards empowering participants with effective restorative practice skills that they can use to help facilitate difficult conversations, meetings, or events. Furthermore, attendees of this workshop will leave the session having explored their own comfort level with various dimensions of diversity that might be landmines for conflict.
• Session 3: RU-N Latinx Student Organizations: Past, Present, & Future
  • Room Location: PRCC Dance Theater Room 351
  • Capacity: 25 people
  • Session Description: Student leadership organizations at RU-N help to build memories, experiences, and Latinidad? : Be part of joining a Latinx student organization. Join us to learn more about the Latino student organization on campus
