Alvert Hernandez
Alvert is a Latino male born and raised in Union City, New Jersey. He was the first in his family to go to college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree and the first in his family to receive a master’s as well. His experience throughout college’s led him to work in higher education. Alvert is a well-rounded professional in higher education and currently serves as the inaugural Director of First-Generation Student Initiatives at Moravian University. In his role, he works to support students that are the first in their families to go to college through 1:1 mentoring support and large-scale’ programmatic initiatives.
Outside of his full-time job, Alvert continues his work as a national speaker and consultant for colleges/universities. He has spoken at many institutions and national conferences throughout the country on student development and leadership.
Alvert is also a published author. His first book called “15 Consejos: A Guide for Latinx Students to Succeed in College” ties the experience and practice that Alvert has learned throughout his years in higher education. He shares tangible strategies on how to navigate the higher education landscape as a college student, through the lens of a Latino male.
